ignity in Dementia is a color print on canvas
by Dr. Michael Seretny, a part-time MFA student
in the photography program in the Department of
Art and Design. Turning his camera lens on the
end-of-life issues that confronted his family, he
captured this image of the hands of his mother,
Lois W. Seretny (BS 1950, HHS). It was featured in
the exhibition Art of Aging, part of a symposium in
September honoring 20 years of gerontology studies
at Purdue and the Center on Aging and the Life Course.
Seretny is a long-time resident of West Lafayette and
retired following a dual career in both education
and clinical healthcare in Connecticut and Indiana.
“My mother would be surprised that her hands have
circulated our campus this past year,” he says.
